Farmers Strive For Greatness!

    Farming, also known as agriculture, has been developing every year. Every year technology advances more and more. The advances help farmers to produce more products like crops and livestock. With the population increasing every year the need for farmers is higher than ever.       The amount of farmland has increased tons over the years.  In 1950 corn totaled about 82 million acres in the United States. In 2016 that number hit around 90 million and that number is still increasing every year. In a 60-year span, soybeans have increased from 15 million to 75 million acres. Farmers can take on so much farmland because of the several advances of technology.        The advances in farming technology have helped extremely with increases the number of products that farmers can produce. The first known farmers hand planted and hand-harvested all their crops. Now farmers have access to machinery that allows them to produce larger amounts of products.      Farming has benefits when it comes to shaping the minds of kids. Farming teaches kids great motivation, good work ethic, kindness, leadership, and several other aspects that make a well-rounded individual.     I have lived my whole life working on a farm. I have been in tractors and combines since I was only two months old. Now after 18 years, I cannot imagine growing up any differently. Farming has taught me everything I know, especially that hard work truly does pay off. Working long days, early morning to late night to get the benefits from the year's work. Farmers do not get paid every week or every other week like a normal job. Farmers get paid once a year. The harder you work and the more time you put in increases the benefits you get (that paycheck). I have also learned never to give up. If something does not go as planned then I do not stop, I find a way to fix it and keep going.     One of the most important things farming has taught me is the true act of kindness. I

 Farmers often get overlooked by society and this is the case because people are not educated about all that farmers do for the world. Several people when they think of farmers think that their dirty uneducated people which in most cases is not true because most farmers today have some sort of higher education. Farming can have very unexpected expenses like a tractor broke down and now they have to spend roughly $100,000 to buy a new one. This is the reason why most farmers have higher education so they can have a steady full-time job outside of farming. Farming has good years and bad years, so they cannot solely rely on the farm income to have a steady happy life. Farmers get overlooked wherever they are. You may experience while driving that you get stuck behind a truck and wagon hauling grain to the elevator (where the grain is sold).
