How Agriculture Has Advanced

Farming, also known as agriculture, has been developing every year. Every year technology advances more and more. The advances help farmers to produce more products like crops and livestock. With the population increasing every year the need for farmers is higher than ever.

The amount of farmland has increased tons over the years.  In 1950 corn totaled about 82 million acres in the United States. In 2016 that number hit around 90 million and that number is still increasing every year. In a 60-year span, soybeans have increased from 15 million to 75 million acres. Farmers can take on so much farmland because of the several advances of technology.

The advances in farming technology have helped extremely with increases the number of products that farmers can produce. The first known farmers hand planted and hand-harvested all their crops. Now farmers have access to machinery that allows them to produce larger amounts of products. New technology in the farm industry comes out all the time. Farmers now can use GPS in their equipment. This means that they auto steer which is a function used to keep straight rows while planting and harvesting. It also means farmers can call in per se an auger wagon to come to where their combine is without someone having to drive the tractor pulling the wagon.

The world's population is increasing every day. Research shows that by 2050 the population will be so high that there will not be enough food in the world. That may seem far away, but it is still concerning. As of today August 28th, 2020, there is nothing planned to help with this matter. There has been talking about growing food inside buildings using hydroponics but there is no proof that this will be enough. Farmers play the main role in supplying food to the world. Data shows that farms are increasing the number of crops they produce but there is only so much farmland in the world. Everyday farmland gets taken away because of new industrial buildings and more homes having to build because of the increase in the population. It's too early to try and make a prediction about what will exactly happen or how to solve this issue. It is however important to keep this in mind.
