Biden Pays Farmers Not to Farm

Image
The government serves a major role when it comes to agriculture. Some of the government's policies affect the domestic economy, foreign affairs, and trade initiates, which have an impact on agriculture production. Local government agencies play a role by providing food safety, inspections, soil conservation, and environmental protections. The government's actions have both negative and positive consequences.  The Biden administration is working to combat climate change. One way Biden wants to go about climate change is paying farmers not to farm. In theory, if the farmers stop working their land then it will decrease the carbon footprint. But leaving open fields can lead to more carbon in the atmosphere. The program wants farmers to not farm their land for 10-15 years, then they can begin growing crops again. After waiting the time before planting, once planting begins the amount of carbon that will be released is more than was eliminated during the 10-15 years, thus defeating

Pheasant Farming

Image
The first step no matter any type of animal you want to raise is preparing their pen (living space). The area that they will be living in must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to ensure that the animal, in this case, pheasants, stays healthy. There are several different options when it comes to disinfectant products but I have always used dawn dish soap and a pressure washer. It is also important that the pen is completely enclosed so no wild predators such as raccoons, foxes, and even rats can get access to the pheasants. I have found after raising chickens for several years is that chicken wire fencing is not sturdy enough to keep raccoons and rats out. Instead, opt for strong square wire fencing. Once the pen has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected for safety, you may move on to the next step which is required before the pheasants arrive.  After preparing the pen you have prepared all the supplies needed for the Pheasants. During the first 2 weeks of the Pheasants chick's

Busy Fall

Image
Fall is one of the busiest times for a farmer. Even though it's the busiest season, it is still the season I look forward to the most. During harvest farmers may experience setbacks whether big or small.  For me, fall is the season I tend to look forward to the most. I have always been around to help during harvest. Whether that providing an extra hand to for working on machinery or as I got older I began pulling gravity wagons (full of soybeans to sell at the grain elevator) and then running the combine. Helping around the farm has always brought me great joy! Every farmer hopes for a successful harvest season with no major issues. There isn't much that will get in farmers way during the harvest season. Wheather and machine failures are the two main reasons why you won't see farmers out doing their thing. Some years weather can cause major delays in farmers getting all their crops harvested. Farmers cant harvest when after a large amount of rainfall because the field will

The Farm Dog

Image
This is my farm dog, Annabell! No, she doesn't hold any real responsibilities around the farm but she thinks that she's is crucial in the harvest process. She does however provide company. Whether I'm stuck in the truck, tractor, or combine for long periods of time, having her beside me makes the day more enjoyable. If Annabell sees or even hears a tractor/combine she gets really excited. She will get so excited that she can't contain it and will begin running all over the place. And you better believe, wherever you go she is there without missing a beat. She would rather miss a meal than miss the opportunity to ride alongside in the tractor.                                                                       One of Annabell's favorite things is watching the animals. As we travel across the field, we see deer, birds, squirrels, but Annabell's favorite is the bunny rabbits. As soon as a Rabbit pops up Annabell gets excited and intensely watches where they go.

Agricultural Safety

Image
Safety in agriculture is very important. Agriculture has a high number of serious injuries. There are several ways to prevent injury while working in this field that I will discuss, along with the common types of injuries that are experienced. When working around such large equipment people have to be very cautious. Proper training and the use of protective equipment can help extremely reduce the risks of injury.      There are several types of injuries that people in the field of agriculture can experience. Whether they are serious, life-threatening injuries, or mild injuries. Combines are equipment that way over 50,000 pounds. This means that anything or anyone that comes near it can be at risk. Combines also have a very high amount of blind spots. There have been several fatalities to children due to this because the operator of the combine cant see if a child is playing directly behind the machine. Animals can also inflict danger on the farmer. Big animals such as horses and

Hemp Farming

Image
Hemp farming has become very popular. Several farmers are starting to take on the art of hemp farming. Hemp is different than things farmers are using too. It's not a very complex plant to grow and harvest, its just different, so it may take a farmer a little while to perfect his hemp operation.  Hemp is part of the cannabis gene but it is not marijuana. Hemp contains less than 0.3% of THC. Hemp also contains high amounts of CBD and CBG, which are utilized very well. Hemp grows well in the same kind of places that vineyards and fruit excel in. Hemp also requires soil that doesn't hold a lot of water and soil that is extremely fertile. Colorado, new york, and Oregon shows the best conditions for growing hemp. Although there are also several other places that hemp will grow and be successful in.  Hemp is used for several different things. Hemp is grown specifically for industrial reasons.  One main item hemp is used for is fabric. That fabric can then make things like backpacks,

Chicken Farming

Image
Chicken farming is very unique in ways. There are also several things that many people don't know about. Chicken farming is a lucrative business meaning you have to achieve it under good management. Breaking that down means that chickens need to be watched closely and taken care of every day. Chickens are very vulnerable to disease. Disease is the main factor that chicken farmers have to look out for. If one chicken gets a disease and it goes unmonitored or controlled then it can quickly spread to the rest of the chickens and soon the farmer will lose their chickens. Chickens are a unique animal. They don't require a large amount of space to stay healthy. However, chickens that have a lot of areas available to them are more likely to produce a larger amount of eggs. Free-range chickens (meaning that they aren't kept in cages and are able to move around outside and inside freely) produce healthier and more tasteful eggs for consumers. It may seem gross but free-range
